So welcome one and all to my Blog which is about my adventures within the Sport of Triathlon and juggling it with the usual pressures of family life, a career and the challenges being a middle-aged man in the 21st Century brings.
What to expect? A bit of everything-
- A Tale of my “Journey”( Hate that word!) to date.
- My thoughts on the sport, its current affairs and events.
- Excerpts of my training diary, what works for me, what doesn’t etc. in the hope other MAMIL’s like me can find things of use and assistance
Why the title? Why so secret?
Well many years ago I came across the sport of Triathlon through a close member of my family who was rather good at it. I’d go as far as saying $h1t hot on fact.
I met many of their training partners and watched a number of events and came to the judgement at the time that they were surrounded by a load of posing alpha-big ego types who took themselves way too seriously and looked down on the rest of us mere mortals. And perhaps that was the ABC profile of the competitors at the time, but thankfully as the sport has grown in the 15 years since that demographic has thankfully changed.
But at that time I said to myself I wouldn’t venture near it as that wasn’t my crowd or my scene.
So imagine finding myself having seen the light and finding myself for many reasons drawn inextricably in to the addiction of the challenge it posed me, the satisfaction it gave me, the mental and physical benefits the training gave me week-in, week-out…..
Addicted, besotted, hooked; line and sinker……and despite many in my circle knowing this I keep a quiet lid on it and am not as open and gushing about this new found love affair. So I’ll pretend its still my secret for just a bit longer.
So this Blog will grow from a blank page to something fuller, more colorful and positive too- I despise the Trolling that goes on out there in social media space by keyboard warriors dragging folks down, so there will be none of that on here either!
As I have found out during my transformation from “Has-been” to “Have-a-go” you can achieve great things when surrounded by positive people with similar goals- call them your TRIbe. When you find those birds of a feather dive in, embrace them, leave your ego at the door and take the hand break on your life off.
The starters gun has fired….
